Burn Baby Burn!

So before I had surgery I pretty much had heart burn all the time. Nothing a few tums couldn’t take care of but I pretty much took them everyday. I’m not exactly sure what about the surgery made the heartburn go away, but literally I had none after the surgery. HOWEVER…..a couple of days ago I was feeling like maybe I was having some heartburn. Nothing super severe but enough that I was uncomfortable. I was actually really upset too because I have no idea why all of the sudden I got it after over a year of having none. It didn’t just happen that one day either, it happened like 2 more time after that I was trying so hard to find a common denominator but I have got nothing!!

Anyone else have anything kind of like this happen to them?? I’m wondering if it has anything to do with my last fill, by why? I’ve had a million fills and have had nothing like this happen before. Really bizarre, if anyone thinks they might know of some reason why this kind of thing couldn’t happen please pretty please fill me in!!

I have taken drugs for heartburn for about ten years. If I eat anything with red sauce (spaghetti, chili, etc.) I'm more likely to get heartburn. Also, if I go to bed shortly after eating. I have only had heartburn since being banded once, and that was after eating chili. I'm still on my heartburn meds. I will wait until I lose a few more pounds, before I try going off of it. Good luck to you! Heartburn is no fun! Tums does not hit it for me. :)

Hey Chicky- Did you get my email?

As for heartburn, I never once had it before being banded, but about a month ago I got it for the first time. It was scary! I have no idea what caused it, but its painful! I told pam about it yesterday, and she didn't seem concerned since I've only gotten it like 2 times. I wouldn't definetly give them a call though if you keep getting it!

I had it all the time pre-band. They fixed my hiatus hernia when I was banded and it went away. Now after a few fills I am pretty restricted and occasionally get heart burn. Usually it comes when I eat too close to bedtime. I can eat spicy foods and have no heartburn so the type of food doesn't bother me, just the fullness after eating. It sits in the pouch and a bit of acid comes up. Try Tums or Zantac. I find they help. They sometimes say if the band is too tight one of the first symptoms is heartburn.

yup...I was the same. I had horrible heartburn pre-band. Post band I had nothing until a couple of weeks ago. I am cutting out food after dinner and it is now all good again. Maybe it will work for you? Barring that I have heard that doctors will give banded patients some anti acid meds to help.
