Is this normal?

So I need to ask a question, I know I only have 2 1/2 cc's in my band, but I feel like if I wanted to I could eat everything and anything I wanted to just like before I had the band. Is this normal? Someone please tell me what you think!???

I think that's normal. I have a lot more fill than you do at this point, bit still feel like I could eat normally. It takes all my willpower not to (and I'm not doing so hot lately).
Hopefully we'll get to our sweet spots soon.

Me too! I have three cc's in my band and like Linda and you, I have to exert huge amounts of willpower and can eat just like before (thought not quite so much portion wise.) I'm also a bit iffy.. some days are good, others not so.. sigh.

Hi there!
You are doing great....wow! Don't make yourself crazy over these fills. They can be very fickle! Sometimes they just have to kick in. At least that's what I found. With that being said, however, if you find that you can easily eat anything and everything and lots of it--definitely let your doctor know. The band is a tool to help you and it should be doing it's job. If you can overeat as in the past then it is not helping you. I use the "pasta and bread test" to see if my fill is adequate--I try to eat bread or pasta and if I can't do it easily then I know the fill is okay but if I can then it's time for another fill...
Keep up the good work and make sure to keep the band working for you!

Remember that your band can likely hold about 10 more CCs. Some people have to get their band filled almost all the way up to hit the sweet spot.

Have some patience, even when it's tough. Follow the rules, even when they're tough. It'll be worth it when you get the right restriction.

What you are experiencing is totally normal. I felt the same way for probably the first 2-3 fills. Once I had some restriction, it was like a night and day difference. The best advice is to just be aware of how much you are eating now and try to stop eating when you are satisfied. Good luck, and hang in there!

I haven't had my first fill yet, but I agree with Melanie. Just stop when you're satisfied. however, I would add that it be your stomach that is satisfied. Are you wanting to eat because you're hungry or your mind wants to keep eating? My answer is usually the second, but we're all different...

I just got fill number two and now have 7 cc's - WOW - talk about restriction - he said it might be too aggressive but he would try it - it is not easy going, but WOW I cannot disagree with this and the scale is moving again! I felt very little restriction at 6 so this is really the real deal now! Hang in there - you will get it - prior to this I measured everything out in 1 cup bowls and ate nothing more - now I'm lucky if I can get in 1/4 cup at a meal and I feel no hunger or even desire! YOU CAN DO IT!

LOL! Yep - it's relatively normal if you have a band system with a generous cc capacity (not all bands do - some only hold 5cc, some up to 10-12cc).

I remember getting my first couple of fills (1cc each time) and having no restriction. Even with 2-3cc in my band system, I was still able to eat a whole sandwich ... I rang the surgical centre freaking out that it hadn't worked!

But depending on where exactly your band was placed and the amount of tubing between the port and the band, you should start to feel some restriction at about 3.5-4cc (in a 10cc system) - there after I would strongly suggest having small fills (less than a cc) as it can get quite finicky and the band can tighten faster than you can say 'bijingos'!

It's a fun, frustrating but rewarding ride - hang on and have fun!
